The State Police Command, Imo state, yesterday said that it has a 20 year old male student of the Imo State University, IMSU, in it’s custody over allegedly having a pistol for “personal protection.”
The Police Public Relations Officer of the state, Orlando Ikeokwo, stated this in a statement to reporters in Owerri.
According to the police it was based on a preliminary investigation as conducted on the suspect.
“On the 9th of May 2021, while on crime prevention and intensive patrol, operatives of the Divisional Police Headquarters, Shell Camp in Owerri, intercepted one suspect in the person of Onyeme Victor Chimaobi, a 20 years old native of Umuguma in Owerri West Local Government Area.
The suspect, Mr Chimaobi, is a student of Mechanical Engineering at the Imo State University. Upon physical search on him, a locally made Pistols and two live ammunition were recovered.”
Police said he confessed to be the owner of the gun, stating that he is using it for his personal protection and that the investigation is ongoing.
